Educational workshop – Sustainable cultivation of deciduous fruit trees

The Agricultural Research Institute successfully organized an educational workshop on “Sustainable cultivation of deciduous fruit trees” within the framework of the project ORGANIKO LIFE+.
The workshop was held on April 3, 2017, at 19:00, at the conference room of Θ.Ο.Ι Kyperounta. Participants farmers were informed about the so far progress of the project and a series of innovative agricultural practices designed to achieve its main objectives. Details were presented regarding the experimental applications undertaken within the framework of the project in conventional and organic orchard in Milia region Kyperounta and the results of a deliverable of the project regarding the mapping of the organic sector in Cyprus were presented. Additionally, there was a presentation about the past, present and future of organic farming through the Cyprus Organic Farmers Association experience .
The ARI was represented by its director Dr. Dora Chimonidou and agricultural research officers Dr. Michalis Omirou, Andreas Stylianou and Sotiroula Ioannidou. The Cyprus Organic Farmers Association was represented by its President Mr. Lakis Pingouras. The Environment Commissioner Ms. Ioanna Panayiotou, representatives of agricultural organizations, representatives of the Troodos Development Company and farmers in the wider region of Pitsilia attended the event.
