4th awareness-raising programme in Italy: Living organic
The 4th awareness-raising programme took place on May 11, 2017 at Sala Ignazio Ambrogio in Rome with the theme: Living ORGANIC: A Sustainable and Conscious Approach “off the beaten track”. The “Languages of Tourism and Intercultural Communication” Master organized by Roma Tre University in Rome, aims to offer a strong preparation for job placement in order to provide a theoretical and practical knowledge of the various articulations of the ‘Tourist area. In particular, the Master aims to provide a solid preparation on the cultural, organizational and regulatory aspects of the tourism phenomenon. In this context, the reality of the world of organic matter and its supply chain has been presented, considering the very important aspects of ecotourism or sustainable tourism, highlighting the not negligible aspect that 2017 is the UN Year on Sustainable Tourism. The Workshop was organized in collaboration with the “Languages of Tourism and Intercultural Communication” Master of Roma Tre University:
Barbara Antonucci, Director of the Master, introduced the seminar to the participants, recalling that 2017 is the UN Year for Sustainable Tourism and that in Italy, the environmentally-friendly tourism sector is growing and that, in the field of Sustainable tourism there is always greater attention to the Food & Wine products that respect the environment – “off the beaten track” combining relaxation and respect for nature.
Roberto Calabresi, Co-ordinator of the Kyoto Club’s Agriculture and Forests Group, recalled that 2017 is the 25th Anniversary of the Life program and then introduced the theme of climate change and the organic sector in Italy and Europe, highlighting aspects related to the cycles Of carbon and the ability of organic crops to fix CO2 in soils.
Eugenio Barchiesi, Kyoto Club – he has illustrated the Life Organiko project taking stock of the activities undertaken to date and future activities.
Andrea Ferrante, President of the Consortium of the Other Economy (Rome), has highlighted the ethical, social and cultural dimension of organic agriculture that puts the “peasant – man” back into the center as the guardian of the territory and the environment. This is due to its abilities due to the deep knowledge of its territory that leads to the protection of what gives it
work and well-being: the environment and the surrounding nature. This activity is best achieved through organic farming that allows improved fertility and healthiness of the soils.
Emilio Buonomo, President of Cilento bio-district, illustrated the characteristics and activities that take place in the Cilento bio-district. Describing the features and benefits of operating in a bio-district from all points of view, both commercial and operational, especially when the biodistrict is in a park area. It has given full readiness to propose, through direct experience, the
establishment of new bio-district in other areas both in Italy and Cyprus through the network of I.N.N.E.R. – International Network of Eco Regions.
Michele Barchiesi, Master Tourism – Roma Tre University, Illustrated the organic practice of growing grape wine and the production of organic wine, of its winery located in Umbria region, highlighting the benefits and opportunities related to the development of the organic production chain seen by the producers.
Davide Cannata, Master Tourism – Roma Tre University, has highlighted the Sustainable Tourism aspects, very careful and responsive to organic products and their consumption. He
recalled that in the period 2012-2015, food and wine tourism increased by 58% despite the global economic crisis. He told his experience of niche tourism realized by knowing the reality
of the organic products chain by directly bringing tourists attending his bed and breakfast from Rome to organic farms in Umbria region.
During and after the various speakers’ interventions there were many questions / answers with the attentive and reactive audience. Antonio Gazzellone of the Regional Tourism Agency of
Lazio also commented, confirming some aspects of ecological tourism in Lazio region and recalled that in 2016 the regional law on the most important religious paths in the region was
approved and co-organized with the nearby regions with whom some walking are shared. This law favors the rural hospitality of pilgrims along the way of the paths, within the farms, also
promoting the production and sale of organic products.
