The impact of environmental contaminants on baby health

Watch this short video recently released by Bruce Lanphear, environmental health expert at Simon Fraser Univeristy, about contaminants exposure and its possible link to premature babies. According to scientific evidence, environmental toxins such as phthalates, BPA and some pesticides can disrupt the hormonal system that regulates the implantation and development of the placenta leading to preterm birth. Babies that are born too soon are less likely to survive through the first weeks of life and have greater risks of developing diabetes, heart disease as well as neurodevelopmental problems. In the video, environmental health experts recommend a number of ways with which people can reduce and avoid toxins in their diet, house and community.
